The MolinaCares Accord Supports Iowans in Need with $150,000 in Donations

The MolinaCares Accord (“MolinaCares”) donated $150,000 to nonprofits throughout urban and rural areas of Iowa to address issues associated with social determinants of health and reduce health disparities among Iowans. This includes advancing programs that address food security, housing, employment and legal aid as well as providing personal protective equipment (PPE) to intermediate care facilities serving the intellectually disabled as well as long-term care facilities.

“With so many Iowa families and individuals enduring such a difficult year, MolinaCares is honored to support local nonprofits as they reach out to those in need,” said Carolyn Ingram, executive vice president of external affairs at Molina Healthcare. “Through the MolinaCares Accord, Molina is able to provide supplies and resources that can make a real difference in the lives of so many Iowans in cities and towns across the state.”

MolinaCares is providing donations to Iowa organizations including:

  • Food Bank of Iowa is a collaborative organization that works with many community-based groups across the state. Serving 55 counties, they help meet the needs of 175,000 food insecure children, families and seniors. Funds will go to support school backpack programs, rural food pantries, and mobile pantries serving rural Iowans.
  • Iowa Healthiest State Initiative is the governor’s initiative to make Iowa the healthiest state in the nation. Funds will support the Double Up Food Bucks Program, which allows low-income Iowans to double their SNAP benefits to purchase fresh fruit and vegetables at various grocery stores and farmers markets.
  • New Visions Homeless Services is a nonprofit providing meals, shelter and basic primary care for homeless individuals in Council Bluffs. Funds will assist with developing new strategies to assist this population.
  • Iowa Health Care Association is the leading state advocate of nursing facilities in Iowa serving all 99 counties. Funds will provide scholarships to rural Iowans interested in entering the long-term care (LTC) workforce, and to LTC facilities short on PPE and other supplies needed to combat the pandemic.
  • Imagine the Possibilities provides residential, home and community-based services for over 1,200 men and women with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Funding will be used for PPE, disinfectants, and other supplies that can be used by Iowans receiving residential care and home care-based services (HCBS).
  • Every Step is a leading provider of prenatal care; maternal health care; Early and Periodic Screening, Diagnostic, and Treatment (EPSDT); children’s behavioral health care; and more than 30 programs that serve at-risk mothers and families in all Iowa counties. Funds will support the Healthy Start Project in Polk County and prenatal education and child development services.
  • Iowa Primary Care Association provides health care services to 226,000 Iowans, regardless of their ability to pay or insurance status. Funding will be used to help reduce health disparities in northwest Iowa by addressing social determinants of health including housing, safety, transportation, child support and expungements, among other legal services. It will help provide onsite Iowa Legal Aid at the Siouxland Community Health Center in Sioux City.
  • Iowa Association of Community Providers has been advocating for mental health and disability providers for over 30 years, serving more than 130 organizations across all Iowa counties. Funding will be used to advance employment opportunities for the disability population.
