There were 100 million digital cameras shipped in the iPhone's first year, 2007. By 2018, the digital camera market had declined by roughly 80%. Of Japan's eight digital camera makers, only one had sales and profit growth in the most recent year. But the Nikons and Canons of world think they have a plan to keep people, and investors, smiling.
